We invite you to listen and notice how nature awakens in the forest.
Do you know what a small bird paradise is right here on the outskirts of Tallinn?
Let’s go and enjoy an early morning walk in the Sõrve Nature Reserve, when nature awakens from its slumber and the forest comes to life with the first rays of the sun. Spring is the best time to experience a good cross-section of Estonia’s spring birdlife, and the unique natural community of the Sõrve Nature Reserve creates an excellent nesting area for birds. During the hike, we will listen to such wonderful songbirds as finches and thrushes, and hopefully we will also hear the spring drumming of woodpeckers. Perhaps nature will give us the opportunity to observe migratory geese and larks in the sky, and if we are very lucky, we will also bump into cuckoos and birds of prey.
In addition to all this, hobby ornithologist Marko will tell many fascinating stories about the behavior and nesting habits of different bird species, and we will learn to notice the signs of birds’ activities in nature.
Come and notice the arrival of spring in the different colors and sounds of nature. Dress in layers for the hike so that you don’t get hot when moving, but so that you are warm enough when standing in one place. The route is diverse, so wear suitable shoes for both sandy surfaces and muddy and wetter sections. If possible, bring your own binoculars.
Hiking guide:
Marko is a hobby ornithologist who has been actively involved in bird watching for the last 15 years both in Estonia and elsewhere in the world. In spring, he can most often be found in the forest or by the sea, observing birds and sometimes taking pictures. Marko likes to take a leisurely walk in nature, perceive the surrounding life with all his senses, and enjoy it with good hiking companions. He is currently studying to become a hiking guide at Luua Forestry School and in the future he wants to share the exciting bird stories he has collected over the years with others while walking in nature.
